At 8 AM on December 13th, 2013, the Pageland Rescue Squad, High Point Fire District, and First Health EMS responded to a report of a vehicle crash on East Maynard Street between Clark Street and Snyder Kirkley Road. Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Hutchinson was first to arrive on the scene and reported that two people were trapped in the vehicles. On hearing Hutchinson’s report Pageland Rescue Squad Captain Joey Hendrix requested that the Jefferson Rescue Squad also respond to assist with the rescue. Rescuers arrived to find that two small pickup trucks had collided head on and the driver of each truck was trapped. As a precaution, firefighters deployed a hose line while Rescue personnel stabilized the most damaged truck with wooden blocks known as cribbing and cut the battery cables. The driver was protected with a heavy blanket while rescuers used the “Jaws of Life” rescue tools to remove the damaged door as well as lift the dash which had partially collapsed in on the driver. Meanwhile Deputy Hutchinson and Josh Evans from First Health EMS began using a pry bar to open the door of the other truck which was not as badly damaged, quickly freeing its driver. Both drivers were transported by First Health EMS to CMC-Union in Monroe and did not appear to have life threatening injuries. The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
